Supporting Student Mental Health and Wellness at Vani Vidyalaya
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." – Plutarch
Our school believes that education is more than academics—it is about shaping compassionate, confident, and resilient individuals. We recognize that a child's emotional well-being is just as important as their intellectual growth. A student struggling with anxiety, peer pressure, or loneliness cannot give their best in academics, no matter how capable they may be.
Guided by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and CBSE's Life Skills and Wellness curriculum, we focus on nurturing the head, heart, and hand. Through mindful practices, creative opportunities, and emotional support, we prepare children not only for examinations but also for life.
Little Gestures, Big Impact
Every school day begins with warmth and care. Teachers greet students with genuine concern, often asking, "How are you today?" - such simple gestures create trust and open space for meaningful conversations. Circle-time activities give children a chance to voice their feelings, making them feel heard, valued, and ready to start the day with positivity.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Beyond books, the playground becomes a training ground for life skills. "A sound mind in a sound body" - Through sports, children learn teamwork, resilience, confidence and courage. Healthy competition inculcates to treat both victory and defeat as the same.
Creativity as Therapy
"Art speaks louder where words are unable to explain" - unknown. Art, music, dance, and drama serve as powerful emotional outlets. Creativity encourages courage, and courage leads to self-belief. By promoting art-integrated learning, we give children the tools to express emotions constructively and build inner strength.
Calm Spaces and Safe Support
The library provides a peaceful retreat where students can find comfort in books. Many students draw inspiration from stories of resilience, discovering silent strength within themselves. Yoga and mindfulness sessions, especially before examinations, help children stay calm, focused, and balanced. These practices remind students that success is not only about hard work but also about mental clarity.
Counselling and Care
NEP 2020 and CBSE guidelines emphasize the importance of counselling, and our school ensures it is available to every student. Trained counsellors support children in coping with academic stress, peer issues, and personal challenges. Students are encouraged to see seeking help as a strength, not a weakness. Counselling sessions equip them with coping strategies and self-belief that last a lifetime.
Joyful Learning Spaces
We offer "Hobby Corners" where students engage in art, craft, debate, quiz, and creative activities. These joyful spaces allow children to relax, explore talents, and take pride in achievements beyond academics. Such opportunities reduce exam-related stress and encourage well-rounded growth.
A Culture of Compassion
Our school nurtures an atmosphere of kindness and inclusivity. Students are encouraged to support each other, speak openly, and build healthy friendships. Teachers maintain strong, caring relationships with students, creating emotional safety in classrooms. Parents too are actively involved through workshops and discussions, ensuring a shared responsibility for the well-being of children.
Why Mental Health Matters
Children spend a large part of their day at school, making it a key space for emotional growth. Studies show that when schools provide emotional support, students not only perform better academically but also adapt more easily to life's challenges. A mentally healthy child is cheerful, optimistic, and emotionally stable qualities essential for success both in school and beyond.
A Shared Hope
"Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." – Aristotle
In Vani Vidyalaya, we truly believe that mental wellness is the foundation of lifelong success. We combine academics with compassion, mindfulness, creativity, and counselling to create an environment where children feel safe, supported, and empowered. As Mahatma Gandhi wisely said, "It is health that is real wealth, and not pieces of gold and silver." By prioritizing mental health and wellness, we give our students the real wealth of life—happiness, strength, and peace of mind.
